Nollywood damsels to look out for in 2014

nollywood-Talent makes a good actor, but a good look has a lot to do with it as well. It is also a fact that a movie poster with pretty ladies on it sells faster – hence many movie makers attach so much importance to good looks, especially with the ladies, when auditioning for a movie.

In 2013, the faces that rocked the Nigerian movie scene known globally as Nollywood were Tonto Dikeh, Monalisa Chinda, Aneke Twins, Dayo Amusa among others.

However, there were new faces that are ready to take over. These new set of actresses have been getting good roles recently and there are indications that they will graduate into what we have tagged: “Nollywood damsels of 2014.” Below are some of them.

Ivie Okujaye

Ivie’s claim to fame was with the now rested Amstel Malta Box Office (AMBO) reality show which she won in 2009. Before then, she was a singer, dancer and women’s right advocate. Today, she is doing bigger things.

The Delta State-born starlet has been referred to as ‘little Genevieve’ due to her striking resemblance of the popular actress. Her role in Alero’s Symphony, alongside singer, Faze, won her an African Movie Academy Award (AMAA) award for the most Promising Actress in 2012.

In 2013, she produced her own feature film and won the African Viewers’ Choice Award (AMVCA) for being a trailblazer.  She is also working on various projects at the moment. We expect to see her bloom this year.

Chelsea Eze

She has the looks and charisma, the two qualities movie producers look out for in actors. Light skinned with good eyes balls, one can’t miss Chelsea in a crowd. That is why she is gathering an army of fans wherever she goes. Movie producers know that she sell movies.

She proved herself as an actress to reckon with in her first movie entitled Silent Scandals. And as expected, her amazing performance earned her an AMAA award in 2009.

With an aura of self-confidence and maturity, Chelsea easily strikes one as someone who is ready to take on the world. She was born in Kano, grew up in Kano, and had her primary and secondary education in Kano.

Among other hit movies to the credit of the English Language graduate of University of Maiduguri are Two Brides and a Baby, Twist, Timeless Passions, Hood Rush. We’ll surely see more of her in 2014.

She had also featured in other movies including, The stripped, Weekend Getaway, Up Creek Without A Paddle, Make Me a Heart and numerous others. Her biggest role in 2013 was in Alan Poza which has been hailed as one of the best films of the year.

Collette Orji

Actress Collette Orji who hit Nollywood in 2008 was introduced into the world of make believe by fellow actress, Stella Ukwuegbu and ever since, she has continued to grow in the industry. She was born and raised in Cameroon; the curvy actress and mother of one relocated to Nigeria in 2003 to pursue her acting career.

Though, she is a bundle of talent, many believe she became the toast of producers due to her backside endowment. She has taken part in flicks like, Raindrop, Two Can Play That Game, Amaka Mustapha, Strength of a Woman, Blue Blood, among others. She is one to look out for this year.

Annabel Zwyndila

Having starred in so many movies including Common Ground, Twisted Union, Beauty, Painful Sin, Motive for Murder, among others, the Adamawa State-born actress is currently the toast of many producers.

She is also a product of AMBO. She was in the third season of the show and did not get to the final. She came out fifth but that did not slow her down. She has been on various sets recently and has many works in the pipeline. What also works for her is her looks which many describes as exotic.

Annabel is a master’s degree holder in human resources management from the London Metropolitan University and has been nominated as Best Upcoming Actress in the ZAFAA Awards that held in London.

Chika Agatha

Busty and beautiful Agatha is unarguably one of the good looking actresses tantalising movie buffs with her acting skills and natural endowments. She is not the one to hide her God given gifts and in many interviews have said “If you have it, flaunt it” which she does in her movies and on red carpets.

The Anambra State-born actress actually studied management science at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN). She has been in many movies till date and was on many set in 2013. Many of her works will be out in 2014 and so we are most likely to see more of her as the year progresses.

Damilola Adegbite

Born on May 18 (the exact year she has refused to disclose) into a family of four. She attended Queen’s College Yaba, Lagos, for her secondary education and then went on to Bowen University Iwo for her first degree in business administration after which she decided to pursue her dream career in television. She has graced many television screens with her charm and talent. She is more known for her role as  Telema Duke in the popular soap opera Tinsel, M-net’s first multi camera production shot majorly in Lagos, Nigeria. Noted for her talent on screen, she recently won the Nigerian Entertainment Award (NEA) for Best Actress in a TV series 2011.

Nkem Ikeh

Nkem Ike is a fast rising movie star that might take over the movie industry soon.

She’s got the looks, beautiful skin and other features that qualify her for any role in Nollywood.

Since she left Tinsel, many movie makers have been giving her roles. Her good looks and talents will surely be a plus for her in 2014

Titi Osinowo

Another budding star that is one of the hottest Nollywood actresses is Titi Osinowo. This Ogun State-born screen queen is pretty and talented. She is also well endowed in the right places, which keeps all eyes on her whether in a movie or in real life. She acts both Yoruba and English languages movies and is well loved by her fans. She will definitely dazzle us more in the New Year.

Feyisikemi Akinwale

This 19 years old recently won the Next Movie Star (NMS) reality show. She is from Ondo and she is studying French at Ekiti State University. She will surely be a face to look out for in the New Year. Organisers of the show are known to get movie roles for winners of the show. Already, Feyisikemi has been penned down for a role in two movies.  Aside her acting skills that won her the show, Feyisikemi also has the looks.

Helen Paul

Helen Paul is known mostly for her television show, Jara with Uti Nwachukwu. She is also known as Tatafo, while she presents on radio. But in recent times, the petit, multitalented comedian has also been getting serious roles as an actor. Her first major appearance was in Funke Akindele’s Jenifa 2. Since then, she has been snatching up roles. Her ability to mix comedy with acting has made her more desirable.

Helen is also a pretty damsel, but she is not for the taking as she is already ‘someone else’s property’ with one child to show for it. One can predict that with her rising profile we will see a lot of her in 2014
