Officers and men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Nasarawa State have arrested three men for illegally diverting about 40,000 litres of kerosene in Keffi Local Government Area of the state.
The state commandant of the NSCDC, Andekin Amos Musa, who disclosed this while parading the suspects at the command headquarters in Lafia on Thursday, said that the suspects were arrested by their anti-vandalism team.
Those that were arrested were 35 years old Adamu Gambo, the driver of the vehicle, who was arrested alongside the driver’s mate, Abdulsalami Isa, 20, while selling the product to 31 years old, Abbas Aliyu.
The commandant stated that the suspects were also arrested with fictitious documents and rather than sell the product to Dankano filling station as stated in the papers, the suspects had diverted the product to a black market outfit where they sold the product at N100 per litre.
Musa noted that the suspects had already discharged about 13,000 litres of the product when they were apprehended.
He placed the value of the product that had already been discharged at the outfit at N1.3 million.
The commandant who said that investigations into the case were still ongoing, appealed to members of the public to give the organisation useful information that would lead to the arrest of those in the habit of diverting petroleum products thus creating artificial scarcity of the product.
